The Yellow Movement

The Yellow Movement is a youth-led feminist movement based in higher educational institutions of Ethiopia, with active chapters in Addis Ababa, Mekelle, and Hawassa University. The movement was started in 2011 as an initiative by students and a lecturer at Addis Ababa University School of Law. The movement aims to raise awareness on Gender Equality and Gender-Based Violence – at the core, the Yellow Movement wants to engage the youth in taking responsibility for the change they want to see in their community. The target and agent of the advocacy is the youth – the Yellow Movement believes in the power of the youth to mobilize and change the community. It especially targets and empowers young women to take an active role in combating gender inequality.
