Seed-Funding Recipient Highlight: Fair Africa Hosts Peace Forum
On April 18, 2022, Fair Africa Community Development Association Ethiopia – a selected seed-funding recipient from the CIPE Civic Engagement Hub’s Pitch Competition – conducted a Peace Forum in Hawassa, Ethiopia. Fair Africa’s CIPE-funded project is titled “Enhancing Youth Participation in Peacebuilding in Hawassa City, Ethiopia” and centers on forming Inclusive Peace Clubs in schools in Hawassa to promote advocacy, volunteerism, and youth engagement that supports peace.
At the event, Fair Africa gave a presentation about the relevance of volunteerism for peacebuilding and shared the high-level impact of the youth advocacy work that took place under the CIPE-funded project. A total of 46 participants attended the forum. In addition to a wide array of youth participants, the Head of the Labor and Social Affairs Bureau from the Southern Region and the Vice President of Hawassa University attended the event. Representatives from the Inclusive Peace Clubs (Peace Ambassadors) presented about the relevance of volunteerism for the program participants. Two panelists from Dilla University also provided information on the importance of supporting youth in promoting peace in the community. The event was broadcasted and transmitted by Debub FM radio station, as well as three TV stations (South TV, ETV, and Fana TV).
